Woodside
|
The Woodside area is distinguished for having been the home of some of the first English speaking settlers on the San Francisco Peninsula. Sawmills and lumber businesses took hold in the area by the mid 1800's; more people were attracted to this beautiful valley and by 1852 there was a regular stage coach service to San Francisco. Gradually the character of the valley changed and the sawmills were replaced by farms, ranches and vineyards. After World War II the growth of the entire area was rapid and The Town of Woodside was incorporated in 1956. Currently there are about 2000 households in Woodside and many of these property owners appreciate the privacy, the peace and quiet of larger and secluded parcels of land, an equestrian environment, and a small, friendly, bustling town center. Both public and private schools receive Woodside residents' children. Just north of Portola Valley, Woodside is very easily accessible to I-280. |
